Hudson Valley Lakehouse Wedding

Near Sleepy Hollow Lake in Athens, New York, there is a beautiful home surrounded by terraced rock. Angela Perri’s parents live there, and while she and her new husband, Michael Thomas, live in Cold Spring, New York now, they decided to go home to the lake for their September wedding.

The lake house is built into a mountain of stone, with gorgeous stone steps, terraces, and landings, making the outdoors a dramatic, multi-level stage for a wedding and celebration. The weather threatened, but the showers were brief and cleansing, leaving the air fresh and the colors refracted as everyone gathered for the ceremony. With a stone waterfall as their backdrop, Michael and Angela exchanged their vows under brightening skies.

Simple elegance defined this wedding, and Angela’s dress, with its classic lines and beautiful lace coat. A signature moment between the ceremony and the reception occurred when Angela and Michael’s friends accompanied them down to the lake and saw them row off in a pontoon boat. In the warmth and fellowship of their celebration, they were able to carve out a few moments alone on the lake. Rowing back to rejoin the celebration in their honor, they could no doubt see it on many levels, with people on the lawns and bridges, terraces and balconies that criss-cross the stone façade.

Large cocktail and dinner tents in the driveway created an outdoor room, close enough to hear the lake waters lapping on the shore. While simple elegance was the order of the day at Angela and Michael’s wedding, exuberance was also present. A stunning fireworks display over the lake — explosive colors and lights — reflected the joy of the day.
